Nigerian midfielder, Joel Obi scored a rare goal to earn his side, Chievo Verona, a 1-0 victory over Reggiana.
The 29-year-old who captains the side left it late into the first minute of injury time to bag his second goal of the season and move his side into 2nd place in the Serie B.
Obi, who was once dubbed Nigeria’s next big thing, has had an upheaval career that has seen him play in Inter Milan, Parma and Torino.
He signed for the second tier side in 2018 for €2M and was instrumental last season as they reached the Semi Final of the promotion playoffs but lost via penalties to Spezia.
They are however vying for automatic promotion this season as the top two of the lower league will secure a guaranteed spot in the Serie A. They sit on 39 points, five points behind Empoli, but they have the second best defence and have lost just thrice in 22 games, the leagues 2nd lowest.
Obi has played 15 of those games scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist to aid their cause. His contract however expires at the end of the season, during which he would have already clocked 30.
