Onuachu is currently ruling Belgian football having netted 19 times in 19 games sitting comfortably as Europe’s second highest goal scorer behind only Ballon D’or winner, Robert Lewandowski.
But after his penalty row with Genk teammate, Theo Bongonda, a likely hidden animosity between the duo appears to have been uncovered, at least that’s what Belgian analyst, Gert Verheyen suspects.
Speaking in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Gert suggested that Bongonda who is the club’s first choice right winger doesn’t assist the lanky forward unlike his corresponding wingman, Junya Ito “who offers Onuachu goals.”
Both wingers have been directly involved in 12 goals with Ito contributing 7 of those as assists while Bongonda has assisted only once.
Interestingly Bongonda’s only assist was for Onuachu in the club’s 5-1 away drubbing of Cercle Brugge.
Ito, on the other hand, has formed a lethal partnership with Onuachu, supplying 4 of his 7 assists to the forward, the second highest partnership in the league.
Two of Ito’s other supply have found Bongonda, further laying credence to the claims by Gert, who labelled the forward as “selfish.”
Although both players have set their differences aside, they will both now be under intense scrutiny has the second half of football gets underway.
