Here is a round up of football stories making headlines around the world. It was a slow news day for football but we start with Nigerian players abroad.
Galatasaray’s summer signing Oghekharo Etebo was sent off in in his first start for the Turkish giants. The box-box midfielder who has made four appearances was booked twice in the game against Alanyanspor when the score line was 1-1 and Galatasaray went on to lose the game. It was only the second sending off in his long career.

Ndidi has joined a long lineup of Nigerian footballers to have supported the ongoing protests in Nigeria. The Leicester midfielder, who is currently out injured was in the stands for his side’s loss against Aston Villa. Ndidi then uploaded an image to his twitter account to support the movement.

Manchester United will have to play their first Champions league game in 18 months without 5 first team players. The UCL opener against PSG came too early for summer signing, Edinson Cavani who has only trained once with his new teammates and he will be unable to make a dream debut against his former club.
A more significant absentee will be club captain, Harry Maguire who scored last weekend for the Red Devils. Other players who are out are Mason Greenwood, Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard.
Manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that in the absence of the club captain, Bruno Fernandes will captain the side for the first time. The 26 year old expressed surprise and rates it “an honour being captain of my teammates and of course being captain of Manchester United.”
Everton forward, Richarlison’s siad he got 10,000 WhatsApp messages in 5 minutes after his personal phone number was inadvertently leaked by his Brazilian teammate, Neymar on Sunday. Neymar was live streaming a video gameplay to his over 600,000 followers on Twitch when he received a call from his countryman who had was under backlash for his tackle on Liverpool’s Thiago. Neymar showed his mobile screen to the camera but then realised his mistake.
Moments later Richarlison tweeted
“Five Minutes and I’ve already got over 10,000 messages. Thanks, Neymar.”
