Fans Relieve Onyekuru Masterclass In Last Derby Ahead Of Saturday Clash

Galatasaray fans can’t help but rub salt in ahead of their side’s crunch tie with Fenerbahce on Saturday.
The derby between the Istanbul rivals is dubbed the Intercontinental Derby as Fenerbahce is situated in the Asian part of Turkey’s capital city, while Galatasaray occupies the European section. It is also nicknamed the eternal Derby.
Wikipedia described the strong animosity as “so intense that many violent incidents have taken place in several regions of Istanbul as well as in rest of Turkey, especially before or after a derby.”
The games between these teams have been so competitive that Fenerbahce (146) have only won the tie two games more than Cimbom(144).
The tie has never come this finely poised as Fenerbahce sit at the top of the pile, three points ahead of first placed Galatasaray who have conceded less and scored more than the leaders.
The two decisive players for each clubs would be new January signings Henry Onyekuru and Mesut Ozil, although Bright Osayi-Samuel poses a potential danger.
Bright is plying his trade in a topflight league for the first time in his career and started Fener’s last game, where he showed glimpses of his brilliant. The derby might be a game too big for him, but with the absence of fans, a lot of the fierceness has been allayed.
Henry Onyekuru on the other hand is no stranger to this Derby, appearing thrice for Galatasaray and yet to lose to their rivals. He has scored twice and provided an assist against The Yellow Canaries, with two of those coming in his last Derby in 2020 before he returned to Monaco.
In that game, which Galatasaray won 3-1, Onyekuru led them to their first away win over their rivals in 20 years.
Clips and photos from that match have been constantly circulated, especially that of Onyekuru’s goal late into added time.
Fans of Galatasaray have been reminiscing over the sweet taste of victory via a thread on Twitter ahead of the showdown,

Ersun Yanal’s memoir “There is a Run from Onyekuru”
While preparing a Vlog for last year’s legendary derby, I found a photo that caught my attention for the first time.
