Köln new January signing, Emmanuel Dennis, was left with mixed feelings on Wednesday after opening his account for Köln to put them 2-0 up before missing a penalty that would have given his side a 3-2 lead.
Second division side, Jahn Regensburg will eventually defeat the Bundesliga side on penalties.
Dennis had provided an assist in his first game over the weekend and continued his fine form with a 22nd minute goal to double his side’s lead.
Köln had several chances to extend their lead but allowed the second tier side back into the game as they restored parity at 2-2 by halftime.
Dennis was given an opportunity to be the hero from the penalty spot in the 77th minute, but he squandered the chance.
He was replaced by Tolu Arokodare in the first half of extratime with Jahn Regensburg completing the comeback by winning the subsequent penalty shootout.
The 23-year-old will have a chance to undo his mistake when Köln travel to Borussia Monchengladbach in the league on Saturday.
